Petroleum Commission Contributes To Youth Development And Career Guidance

The two-day virtual career fair held last month aimed at bridging the gap between industry and academia to foster occupational development and knowledge acquisition from various industries.

During the students’ session with the Commission, Ag. Director Human Capital and General Services, Mrs. Adjoa van Vicker, acknowledged the efforts made to bring the students close to industry. She encouraged the students to build their capacities in various areas essential for the job market.

In a similar vein, Manager, Human Capital, Mrs. Susana Adjei-Addo, urged the students to develop keen interest in professional issues related to their chosen fields such as work ethics, rudiments of industry, among others to enable them to make informed choices about their career paths.

On her part, Head, Corporate Affairs, Ms. Linda Kosi, in response to questions posed by participants, briefly enlightened the students on the role of the Commission while highlighting efforts made by the Commission to build the capacity of Ghanaians. She explained that this was imperative because the industry is expatriate dominated owing to the demand for specialized skills in a capital, technology intensive and high-risk industry.

Manager, Localisation, Mr. Patrick Akanpaaba, was optimistic that this year’s Career Fair will afford the Commission the opportunity to contribute its quota to youth development and career guidance to the students. “The fair doubles as a platform to nurture the interests of the students into considering job roles needed in the development of Ghana’s upstream industry,” he said.

The forty-minutes session each day allowed students to engage the Commission’s panel on the role of human resource, finance, corporate communication, and engineering in the industry as well as Health Safety and Environment, issuance of permits to IOCs among others.
